I am in the midst of moving from a leased house to a newly purchased one. All of the boxes we didn’t go through for the past several years while waiting to buy are now being tackled one at a time. Ugh. Many have revealed items that trigger memories. Some good and many sad ones. I have gone through boxes with my son’s books, birthday cards from my mother, and notes from my dear friend Alycia Long Allen.
My heart has taken a beating these past three and a half weeks but it has been worth it. Savers, which funds the Boys and Girls Club here, has benefitted from three trunk loads of donations. And I have found things long forgotten. Last night I found a framed verse that my dear friend Lynn gave me after Cory died. Talk about memories!
Though distance may come between a mother and her child
the bond that holds them close will never weaken
the love they share will never be more than a memory apart
I love that and wanted to share. It applies to me and my mom too.
When memories are all we have left we need to savor them.
Be well,
Shirley
